We saw Potted Potter at the Bluma Appel Theatre in Toronto last week. It was a waste of money. The theatre ought to have made it clear that you are not seeing the original two actors that created the show, but only understudies. The jokes fell flat. The timing was off for many of them. It was silly and appropriate perhaps for children under 5, but not for Harry Potter fans who are looking for a fast-paced parody of the novels.

ALMOST NO PRODUCTION BUDGET
2 actors doing an improv with dollar store props..barely any set at all. There were no clever jokes or much expression of talent. This was worth a $15 cover at max. Charging customers over $70 for a show that barely has any production value and only 2 actors feels like a SCAM.

FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN
I agree with the person who was disappointed with this parody. I think the people who market this show should be clearer about the target audience. As an adult who loves a wide variety of comedy and has a very good sense of humor, I was either bored, annoyed, or mildly amused for most of this show because much of the silliness and jokes were just insipid. I loved the Harry Potter movies but hated most of this show (though it did get better towards the end). It was the worst live show (that wasn't free or inexpensive) that I've seen in my life. Though there are some amusing moments here and there, It is not much of a parody. (For those of age, for a truly funny parody, watch Monty Python and The Holy Grail)
Our kids did enjoy it. If I were rating this from a child's perspective, I guess I would give it 3.5 stars, but I can't think like an 8 year old anymore. Kids are more easily pleased. And no doubt there exist adults who enjoyed this because I heard many of them laughing.

COMFORTABLE SEATING = NAP
Horrible show, and an embarrassment of the concept. The only good thing was that
the seats were comfortable and I took a nap. It truly is not an overview of the books
or even movies, it's cheap crap that two men use to tell themselves they're funny.
The props were terrible, and the two men did more convincing themselves they're
actors than anything else. I mainly felt sorry for the kids that were dressed up in
Potter costumes, they would have done better. This is not for anyone that has an
appreciation for Potter.

DON'T WASTE YOUR $$ OR TIME
My husband and I both thought this sounded like a fun show. To our dismay, it turned out to be anything but fun. My advice to anybody considering attending is - don't bother. No idea how this has gotten rave reviews.
The 'humor' was on the level of the middle school class clown, and that's being kind. Most of the 'props' looked like they'd been bought at a garage sale. And, of course, there was the obligatory political jokes. Please, we did NOT pay to hear you joke about politics or to watch you act silly....you were supposed to ENTERTAIN us for 70 minutes with a parody of Harry Potter. You failed miserably.
If I could have given this 1/2 star, I would have done so.

POTTED POTTER: OVERPRICED/SAVE YOUR MONEY
Don’t waste your money on a ticket!! This is community theatre at best with a big ticket price! The actors broke character (laughing to themselves), they mumbled (in trying to deliver lines too quickly) and they jumped the shark in bringing politics to the performance. I was underwhelmed and disappointed! Save yourself the $$ and moments of your life you can never get back!! ZERO STARS

A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT
I am admittedly a Harry Potter fanatic, so I was really looking forward to this show. I wanted to laugh, but it wasn’t funny. I wanted to be entertained, but it wasn’t entertaining. The ‘humor’ was geared toward ten year olds and their parents. I am neither a ten year old nor a parent. If you hadn’t seen the Harry Potter movies before going to the show (like my husband), you would never WANT to see them after sitting through this. It was a frenetic, confusing mess.
The venue, however, was lovely, and there was beer, wine and mixed drinks for sale, so....there’s that.
